Deadlock persists between FBR, CMOs over blocking of 0.5m SIMs

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Income (FBR) and mobile cellular operators (CMOs) failed to succeed in a consensus over the blocking of 0.5 million sims belonging to non-filers, Prime Time News24 reported Wednesday. 

The event comes a day after the telecom sector declared FBR’s transfer as a sheer violation of Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-Organisation) Act 1996, license situations and laws. 

OMCs spokesperson stated that in the course of the assembly with FBR, further technical, operational, and authorized points have been highlighted, necessitating additional deliberations.

“No assurances have been offered by telecom operators for blocking SIMs,” he added.

Regardless of reaching out to FBR Chairman Amjad Zubair Tawana for feedback on the discussions with CMOs, no response was acquired by the point of submitting Prime Time News24 report.

Furthermore, the tax accumulating authority had additionally made progress towards digitalisation because it notified mission administration workforce of Tax System Digitalisation.

The workforce consists of Muhammad Khalid Jamil (IRS/BS-20) as mission director (convener), Zainul Abidin Sahi (IRS/BS-20) as chief (programs), IT wing, Arshad Nawaz Chheena (IRS/BS-20) as chief (income operations), IR-operations wing, Bushra Jaffar (IRS/BS-19) as chief (OPS) (DRM), reforms and modernisation wing, Mohammad Iqbal Khan (IRS/BS-19) as director (POS), directorate normal of digital initiatives, and Usman Kokab because the focal individual from Karandaz.
